Charles is a professional music teacher, conductor and musician from County Fermanagh.
Whilst living in Yorkshire, Charles spent many years working with some of the best brass bands and ensembles in the UK before moving back to Northern Ireland in 2018. He studied Music at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in cornet and conducting under the expert tuition of Philip McCann and Natalia Luis-Bassa, and also holds a PGCE and MA. Over the past three years, he has been mentored in conducting by Mark Heron and the conducting team at the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music, as well as Allan Withington in Holland, all supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland. As a performer, Charles has travelled across Europe performing in brass bands, orchestras and choirs, and has guest conducted many ensembles across the UK. He is also a renowned piano accompanist, working with professional musicians and choirs in Northern Ireland. He has worked as a classroom Music Teacher for nine years, and was Head of Music at a large, successful secondary school and sixth form in Leeds. He now teaches Music and Performing Arts part-time at Omagh Academy. The remainder of his time is spent working as a conductor, accompanist and private instrumental teacher. |
